No matter the topic, things are almost always worse than you think, but wealth concentration in the U.S. is way worse.
At least with all this wealth concentration we can expect a new wave of philanthropy, right? A flood of Carnegies and Mellons and the accompanying cool libraries, museums, parks?
Nope. Aggregate charitable giving remains essentially flat over the past 15 years. Our modern plutocrats have pretty much dispensed with the oblige part of noblesse oblige, which was all very un-Fountainhead, anyway.
But the rest of us can take heart that there is one notable area with a definitely a healthy growth in giving from our financial overlords. Elections, of course!
